UCP Nomination Contest Heats Up in Calgary-Shaw

The United Conservative Party is holding a nomination vote today, June 24, 2026, to select its candidate for the Calgary-Shaw by-election. The contest follows the resignation of long-serving UCP MLA Rebecca Schulz, who represented the riding since 2019. Voting takes place from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Cardel Rec South (Flames/Oilers Room) in Calgary, open exclusively to UCP members who joined by June 3. The riding has drawn attention as a key internal party battleground.
Candidate Mike Derry is actively campaigning on a platform of open and honest communication, positioning himself as a strong voice for the community. He is facing Calgary City Councillor Dan McLean who currently represents part of the riding. The same evening, Premier Danielle Smith and MLA Tara Sawyer are hosting a town hall exclusively for UCP members.
The NDP has not yet announced a candidate or nomination process for Calgary Shaw.
