Alberta adds $30 million for community health centres in Calgary and Edmonton
Four organizations will share a total of $60 million over four years for integrated primary care and social supports.

EDMONTON — Alberta is providing an additional $30 million to four community health organizations serving residents who face barriers accessing conventional primary care.
The new allocation brings the province’s total commitment to $60 million over four years. More than $23 million will go to The Alex Community Health Centre in Calgary, while CUPS Calgary Society will receive more than $13 million. Radius Community Health and Healing in Edmonton will receive $14 million, and the Jasper Place Wellness Centre will receive $9.6 million.
The centres combine medical care with mental-health and addiction services, community outreach, housing navigation, food programs and other social supports. Their patients frequently include people experiencing homelessness, poverty, mental illness or substance-use disorders.
The province says the funding is intended to help patients receive care before their circumstances become crises requiring emergency or hospital services. Participating organizations will be required to track patient outcomes and health-system use.
Funding is being provided through the Canada-Alberta bilateral agreement on health outcomes.
