Eby reshuffles B.C. cabinet as Brenda Bailey takes medical leave
Premier David Eby has announced three changes to his cabinet after Finance Minister Brenda Bailey revealed she will take a temporary leave to undergo cancer treatment. Josie Osborne will move into the finance portfolio, Ravi Kahlon will take over as health minister, and Bailey will become minister of jobs and economic growth upon her return.

VICTORIA — British Columbia Premier David Eby has reshuffled several of his government's most senior cabinet positions after Finance Minister Brenda Bailey was diagnosed with early-stage cancer. Bailey is expected to begin treatment in late August and plans to return to work in early October, according to the Premier's Office. She will remain a member of cabinet while on leave.
Josie Osborne, who had been serving as health minister, has been appointed minister of finance. Osborne has previously served in four provincial ministries and sits at the Treasury Board table, experience the government says gives her familiarity with B.C.'s fiscal plan as she takes responsibility for the province's finances.
Ravi Kahlon will move from the jobs and economic growth portfolio to become minister of health. Kahlon has recently overseen the government's economic strategy, including its response to U.S. trade measures and the province's Look West plan. His move places him in charge of one of the provincial government's largest and most politically significant ministries.
Bailey, meanwhile, has been appointed minister of jobs and economic growth, returning to a portfolio similar to one she previously held as minister of jobs, economic development and innovation. Her responsibilities will include major projects and trade diversification, although Energy and Climate Solutions Minister Adrian Dix will oversee the portfolio while Bailey undergoes treatment and recovery.
The changes took effect Friday, Aug. 14. Eby described Osborne, Kahlon and Bailey as among the most experienced members of his cabinet and said the changes are intended to provide continuity while allowing Bailey to focus on her treatment before returning to government this fall.
