Byelections Scheduled For December
Six federal ridings will elect new MPs on Dec. 7

Six federal ridings will elect new MPs on Dec. 7, with byelections scheduled across Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan.
Two seats are up for grabs in Ontario, three in Quebec and one in Saskatchewan following a series of MP resignations. The vacancies were previously held by MPs from the Liberals, Conservatives, NDP and Bloc Québécois, giving several parties seats to defend while creating opportunities for others to make gains.
Among the contests to watch is Laurier–Sainte-Marie, where the Liberals have recruited former Desjardins CEO Guy Cormier to replace former cabinet minister Steven Guilbeault. Saskatchewan’s Yorkton–Melville will test the Conservatives in a riding they have held since 2015, while the departure of longtime NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice creates an opening in Montreal.
