Canada, British Columbia Sign Cooperative Prosperity Agreement
VANCOUVER — The federal government and British Columbia have signed a new Cooperative Prosperity Agreement aimed at advancing major energy, mining, electricity transmission, transportation and trade infrastructure projects in the province.
Prime Minister Mark Carney and B.C. Premier David Eby announced the agreement on July 2, saying it is intended to support faster project delivery, strengthen supply chains and expand access to export markets. The agreement identifies several projects for federal support, including LNG Canada Phase 2, Ksi Lisims LNG, Cedar LNG, Woodfibre LNG, the Red Chris Mine expansion and the North Coast Transmission Line.
The federal government said the agreement includes $500 million for the Red Chris Mine expansion, $3.9 billion for the first two phases of the North Coast Transmission Line and up to $3 billion for the George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project. The two governments also said they will explore a national carbon credit framework, continue engagement with First Nations, maintain the North Coast tanker ban, and support workforce training for up to 100,000 new Red Seal trades workers.
